William and Robert debated how to best spend their time. After their pay-night, Robert wanted to celebrate the Sabbath and William wanted to go boating. Robert wins the debate detailing the many blessings of keeping the Sabbath. There is warning to the reader of the evils of profaning the Sabbath.

Rev. John Haslock (1781–1846) was born in St. Pancreas, Middlesex England. He was educated at Hoxton Academy in Hoxton, Middlesex. He was ordained in 1810 to serve the Congregational church at Kentish Town. He served this congregation from 1810 to 1844, by which time the church was filled to overflowing. He married to Sarah Ann Lewer in 1803 and had a number of children. His daughter Mary (1816–1892) wrote the hymn “Christian, Work for Jesus.”
