Mission Statement:
To glorify God by publication of historic Christian literature for the edification of readers.
What is Curiosmith?
Timeless spiritual truths set forth in the works of saints "long removed from the earth" provide a valuable legacy. Curiosmith publishes this Christian heritage literature with a mindset of selecting stories with a foundation in the Christian gospel message. We render many of the illustrative elements that accompanied these earlier editions, to enhance the power of the story.
The Name. The meaning of Curiosmith:
1. Curious works - מַחֲשָׁבָה, A Hebrew word meaning thought, device, or design. "And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; And to devise curious works..." -Exodus 35:31-32a (KJV)
2. Smith - is a suffix that means a specialized craftsman. "Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work." -Isaiah 54:16 (KJV)
The Tagline. Gospel Heritage Literature: This is a general term meaning historic literature that contains the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The term has been defined by this website and is not part of any group or movement.
Store Philosophy. We believe in quality service and giving people a good value. Product and shipping costs are kept reasonable. Satisfaction is important and we will refund any order that is returned in original condition.
Editing Style. The editing style employed in our books is overwhelmingly the style of the original editions. The punctuation, sentence structure and most spellings are the same as the original book. Nineteenth century writers used hyphenation and commas extensively and most are left as is. The editing done corrects typos and updates some words. An example of a word change is "to-day" to "today".
Illustration. Printed illustrations that were made from engraved wood blocks are found in print publications before photography took hold (about the 1890's). Our books seek to preserve this beautiful artwork. We restore and include many illustrations and decorative artwork from the original publications.
Selection Process and Spiritual Content. We have high standards for spiritual content and look for books with a foundation in the Christian gospel message. The books selected must have a sense of sin, guilt, or wrong doing; and with Jesus Christ as the answer, Savior, or atonement. Although the Christian life is much more complicated, this is essential for the glory of Jesus.
