Timothy Shay Arthur

Timothy Shay Arthur (1809–1885) was born in New York. He did not have a literary background from parents or much schooling, but he started writing in his 20’s. He married Miss Eliza Alden in 1836. He was in a literary group called the “Seven Stars” which included Edger Allen Poe. He published several magazines bearing his name. He wrote temperance and popular fiction, history, and many other books.
