Joseph P. Thompson
Joseph Parrish Thompson (1819–1879) was born at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and educated at Yale University. He served twenty-six years as pastor at the Broadway Tabernacle Church. He worked on publications including “The Independent,” an antislavery magazine and “The New Englander,” a Congregational magazine. He was president of the American Union Commission and did work for the Home Missionary Society. He published several biographies and many sermons. “Dr. Thompson was a classmate and intimate friend of Mr. Stoddard. The Memoir [Stoddard] is framed almost entirely from material furnished by Mr. Stoddard's correspondence.”
