Joseph Butterworth

JOSEPH BUTTERWORTH, ESQ., (1770–1826), was born in  Coventry, England. He married Anne Cooke, the sister of the woman who married Adam Clark. Both Joseph and his wife, Anne, made a confession of conversion at the same time. His father, John Butterworth, wrote the first version of what finally became, with the help of Joseph Butterworth, the Adam Clark Commentaries. He was a member of Parliament and the treasurer of the Wesleyan Missionary Society.
