Edward Whymper

Edward J. Whymper (1840–1911) Mountain climber and wood engraver. He worked with his father in the wood engraving business. When he made sketches of the Alps he became a mountain climber. Probably more famous as a mountain climber than as an engraver. He worked on book illustration with Walter S. Stacey.
