The Swiss Peasant
A peasant woman was left in the ruins of the Swiss village of Baynes, after a flash flood ruined it. The destruction from the flood serves as a backdrop for the verse, Proverbs 10:29b, "Destruction shall come upon the workers of iniquity;" yet, 2 Peter 3:9, "he is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." The woman recalled a visitor once who told her of Christ, but she maintained that salvation was by good works. Reverend Malan then related to her Jesus' gift of salvation by grace.
